Stories @ HGS: Milky

Milky is one of our quality analysts in HGS Philippines. She shares with us her HGS journey.

I wasn’t very confident as an individual before I started working with HGS. On my very first day at HGS, a statement caught my attention, “Be the best version of yourself.” It was the best takeaway from my training period. I kept that in mind and made an effort to apply it in all my tasks. I continued to progress, in the warm and accepting work environment. Working with HGS gave me a chance to meet many interesting people from various walks of life. I was even able to support my family, even though they were unhappy that I was working away from home.

Because of personal circumstances, I had to move back home. It took its toll on my self-esteem and confidence. The move also made me realize that I had grown to love my job. I made up my mind to follow my passion.

Someone dear to me had once told me not to be afraid of failing. So, I packed my bags and went back to the place that taught me to take chances--HGS. I talked to my manager about wanting to come back. My stomach was churning, but he was very understanding of my situation. I got back to work, reminding myself that everything will be okay and that I am going to do it with passion, the courage of conviction, and a strong sense of self.

Every day at work comes with its own set of challenges, and no two days are the same. I’m always encountering tough situations that push me out of my comfort zone. As a result, I have become open to lots of new experiences and most open to changing myself. I have been able to fix my family’s conflict, and today, they are happy and proud of who I’ve become. I am far more independent than ever, capable of supporting myself.

We are reminded every day on the job that we are making a difference in someone’s life. One of my calls recently stands out the most for me. The caller was saying goodbye, and he asked me, “Can you check when I’ve first had service with you?”

The year was 1993, and I thought to myself that I wasn’t even born then. He became rather emotional on hearing the date and ended the call thanking me and everyone for the excellent service. It was, indeed, a moving experience. I realized then that I wasn’t just making a living; I was making a difference. Personally, that has been the biggest motivation in my life.

In my time with HGS, I’ve realized my passion, taken chances, gotten over my fear of failure, become the best version of myself, and above all, I continue to make a difference. Thank you, HGS, for being the best part of my life.
