Meet Recruiter Jennifer

In this series, our recruiters speak about all that it takes to join Team HGS.

HGS: Tell us about your education and experience.

Jennifer: I am a graduate of the Early Childhood Education program at Northern College’s Porcupine campus. I spent many years in that field, but a twist of fate landed me in the contact center industry. I started with HGS in 2012 as a Customer Service Representative; I quickly advanced to the Hospitality Support Specialist role, where I was for four years. In that time, I got a chance to take on extra tasks, including assisting with recruiting when needed. When the recruiter position opened up, I jumped at the opportunity, as it felt like the natural progression in my career path. While my experience in recruiting has been trial by fire, I think it has made me a dependable recruiter today.

HGS: What are some must-have qualities you look for in applicants?

Jennifer: I’m looking for people who aren’t shy, who have an outgoing personality, and a drive to help people no matter what the circumstances. 

HGS: What would be your pro tip for applicants?

Jennifer: Review your resume before submitting it! Make sure all of your contact info is up to date. I know some people tailor their resumes to the jobs they’re applying for, but I like to see your entire work history. You may not think a role you’ve held relates to the job you’re applying for, but you never know what skills you’ve gained when you weren’t looking for them!

HGS: What is a question you never miss asking?

Jennifer: I ask a specific type of questions. I like open-ended questions, where people are free to talk and open up. When people are left to interpret what you want as a response, they sometimes give you more information than you were anticipating.

HGS: What aspect of the HGS culture do you share with your candidates?

Jennifer: I love explaining to people how comfortable it is at HGS. I’ve been here for seven years now, and my coworkers have become almost like family. Work has to be done, but the days are so much easier when you enjoy the company of coworkers.
