Mary Swaroopa is a deputy manager with the organisational development (OD) team, based out of our Chennai office. She has been with HGS for the last four years. She shares her experience of growth here.
How has your journey been so far?
My learning has been immense here. Over the years, the organisation has grown with many in the top management coming in for diverse specialisations and functions. So I have had an opportunity to work with effective leaders, who have taught me the art of managing different people and situations tactfully. I started out as an assistant manager managing the OD functions for the Chennai location. Eventually, I was also given the Nagercoil location. Currently, as a deputy manager, I handle the domestic and international businesses in Chennai and Nagercoil.
Tell us a little about your job.
My role is to facilitate training and development for various groups such as new joiners, recruiters and women employees. So, I undertake the corporate induction for fresh hires and deliver other training modules. As a part of these activities, I also handle identifying the training needs of various stakeholders and plotting the training calendar every month. A large part of the job is motivating trainees to look ahead, work to upskill and pursue higher roles. That is something I enjoy the most about my role.
What inspires you at work every day?
My boss and the vibrant HR team are my daily motivators. Aside from the people, the culture is warm, and one’s personal life gets as much importance. HGS is the best place for career-oriented women because not only is it a very safe environment, but it also enables excellent work-life balance.
What are you popular for at the office?
I think for my training and the motivational thoughts I share with employees when they are stressed.
